Current Status Updates
9/19/17: Be advised that as part of the Wheeler Plaza project, concrete will be poured on several dates in September & October that will impact Walnut St. & the alley at Cherry St. connecting to the valet-assisted lot. The city of San Carlos has approved an early start time of 7 am on specific dates to allow for set up and staging of pumps & equipment prior to beginning concrete pouring at 8 am. Note dates & start times:
- 9/25 pour in middle section: early set-up. Alley and Walnut Streets impacted.
• 9/27 pour on south side. Early set-up. Alley and Walnut Streets impacted.
• 10/2-10/6 shotcrete and pour throughout. Alley and Walnut Streets impacted. 10/4 date will include early set-up.
Every effort will be made to work quickly without compromising safety in and around the area. Please obey signage and safety workers.
Wed. 8/30/17: Concrete pumping today. Avoid Walnut St. between Alley behind Wells Fargo Bank also impacted. Streets not closed but heavy machinery & vehicles present. Please use caution; obey signs & flag men. Thank you!
Phase 1 Timeline
Begin utility underground work. This work will impact some public parking spaces in the Wheeler lot and along Walnut Street during the day. The spaces will be available for customer parking in the evening hours.
SamTrans parking garage open for free customer (3-hour) and employee permit parking (all day). The garage is accessible from Walnut Street.
Demolish 616 Laurel Street (Foodville). Demolition will take approximately 2 weeks and impact sidewalk access on Laurel Street.
Demolish 1245 and 1249 San Carlos Ave. Demolition time estimated to take 2 to 3 weeks and some sidewalk & parking impacts will take place.
Temporary employee parking lot opens along El Camino Real (south of Arroyo).
Temporary free public valet assisted lot opens at footprint of Foodville site.
Wheeler Plaza Public lot closes for construction.
Fencing of site and demolition of concrete, removal of trees, utility poles.
Grading and shoring of site, sanitary sewer work along San Carlos Avenue.
